L1 Certification

A rocket built to obtain Level 1 High Power Certification for HPRPL.

* This rocket is not completely original work. Though it was modified for our specifications, most of the aerobody is from a kit. I also couldn't locate the final OpenRocket file so what's attached was not our end design. CAD files are also lost. *

Contribution

I built this rocket with a kit I modified to increase stability and apogee. This was done by adding a mass component to the nose cone. I modeled and simulated flight on OpenRocket and used SOLIDWORKS to CAD the centering rings we needed to 3D print. I determined appropriate parachute diameter and configuration for successful recovery. I successfully flew and recovered the rocket with my team.

Improvement

I underestimated the power of impact for the rocket landing and damaged a fin. Next time I'd pay closer attention to simulation data and reinforce vulnerable components appropriately.
